Description
3pc WM GALE HEAVY AMERICAN COIN SILVER TEA SET c1830s Presented is a wonderful quality American coin silver tea set by William Gale. The set is beautifully done with shell and flower decoration around the edges. Each piece has good size and tremendous weight. The tea set was made around the 1830s. The creamer is not original to the set. It is a replacement made around the turn of the century, c. 1900, by S. Kirk & Son to match the rest of the set. This piece is done in sterling silver. It was even made with the matching monograms, and it has tremendous weight and quality as the rest of the set does. All the pieces are monogrammed on one side with Bonheur EMBT and on the other side with EKJ. This set was passed down in the family. The first monogram "EKJ" was engraved when the teapot and sugar bowl were new, in the 1830s. The monogram on the opposite side was obviously done several decades later when it was passed down to the next generation. The set includes: Coffee pot or teapot: 12 3/4 inches wide from handle to spout, 9 5/8 inches tall Covered sugar bowl: 8 1/2 inches wide from handle to handle, 9 inches tall Creamer: 6 1/4 inches wide from handle to spout, 8 inches tall The teapot and sugar bowl are hallmarked on the underside with the makers marks for William Gale. The creamer is hallmarked on the underside with S. Kirk & Son Inc., Sterling, 925/1000. The condition is excellent. All the pieces are extremely clean on the interior and ready to use. There are a few small dings, but these are very minor. In the photographs which show the lids of the teapot and the covered sugar bowl, you can see dust and fine particles in the photograph. This is just what it looks like, a little dust on the surface. There are no dents, no dings, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The total weight is 2650 grams or 98.9 ounces.
