81pc DOMINICK & HAFF LOUIS XIV STERLING FLATWARE SET Presented is a nice sterling silver flatware set by Dominick & Haff. The set is done in the Louis XIV, old style, pattern which was first produced in 1888. Each piece is monogrammed EAE on the end of the handle. The knives have sterling silver handles and stainless steel blades. The set includes: 12 knives: 8 3/4 inches 12 dinner forks: 7 1/2 inches 12 salad forks: 6 3/4 inches 12 cocktail forks: 5 1/2 inches 11 teaspoons: 6 inches 11 round soup spoons: 7 inches 11 place spoons or dessert spoons: 7 inches The knives are marked Brilliant on the blades and Sterling on the handles. The other pieces are hallmarked on the reverse with the maker’s mark for Dominick & Haff, Sterling, and Bigelow Kennard & Co for the retailer. The condition is excellent. The knives have some small dings on the handles and two of the teaspoons have small dents on the ends of the bowls, but this is minor. There are no other dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. Undoubtedly the knives originally had silverplated carbon steel blades. The original blades have been replaced with stainless steel blades. This actually makes the knives more usable and certainly easier to maintain. The total weight is 3031.3 grams or 106.2 ounces. This does not include the weight of the knives because of the stainless steel blades. This set comes with an optional, free, bonus box as seen in the photographs. The box is a felt lined wooden box. The box has surface wear but is effective in protecting the set against tarnishing. This box is free, and is not considered to be part of the value of this auction.
