Description
Antique Sterling Solid Silver Sugar Bowl/Basin ~ George IV 230 Grams~8 1/4oz An English Sterling Solid Silver Sugar Bowl~Basin from the late Georgian Period with two handles, acanthus leaf motif, gilt interior, gadroon trim on the top edge, bright cut floral design, and ball feet. The graceful bowl is fully hallmarked for; sterling silver, the assay town mark for London, duty mark, and year 1821. The marks are crisp and clear. Gilt wash interior glistens. A striking piece to display or use. Solid weight; 230gr. or 8 1/4oz. In the year the sugar bowl was produced; George IV had been recently crowned King, even though he had preformed the duties for several years due to the illness of his father. During his reign England was enjoying recent success with military endeavors. Silverware during his reign was often large with generous amounts of bright cut engraving along with other outstanding features. For your collection……..187 years of history and patina. Maker's Mark RP-from my research-most likely Richard Pierce Measurements: 8" high handle to handle or 15cm; 4 1/4" tall to top of handle or 11.5cm, height from bottom to top edge is 3 3/4" or 9cm; width is 4" or 10cm Condition: Bowl and Interior gilt wash good. No repairs I can discern. Minor surface scratches, as expected for antique sterling. Three dings on one side of bowl (difficult to capture due to reflection); please refer to last picture.
