Dimensions: 12 Panels, just over 9 feet in height. Each panel is just over 19” wide and just over ½” thick. Authentic multi-layered lacquer, lacquer color, color scheme and patina. - Supreme extreme intricacy and artisanship of the carving. - 17th Century Fenyang style artisanship, shape, proportion of faces and figures. - Total number of human figures (140) of the Screen (not including small human figures in the boarders). Front Side Themes: - Complexity of both Classic Palace scene on the left including dignitaries approaching within the Palace walls and the Guo Ziyi (inscribed banner) Battle scene outside the Palace on the right on front side – very special to include both complex themes. Note: Guo Ziyi (697 – 781) during the Tang Dynasty thought to be one of the greatest generals in Chinese history After his death, he was immortalized in Chinese mythology as the God of Richness and Happiness. - Triple boarder – outside boarder design includes chrysanthemums and mythical flying beasts, large middle boarder panels – all twelve unique natural mountain scenes across the top including tiny human figures with natural themes across the bottom, inside boarder design are chiefly floral and natural but include more tiny human figures (not included in the count above), Panels 1 and 12 on the Front side include highly detailed and stylized 4 toed dragon and other mythical beasts denoting high level importance and possible nobility. Back Side Themes: Dignitary within center structural element amidst magical spirits and mythical beings and natural forces such a the crane and doe. Triple boarder – outside natural and floral themed boarder , large middle boarder panels – all unique natural floral and the arts themes, inside boarder design are chiefly floral and natural. - Similar attributes to documented 17th Century Museum Coromandel Screen at distinguished East Coast U.S. Museum: Size, number of panels, patina, layers of lacquer, color of background lacquer, color and color scheme of themes, arrangement and type of themes, distribution of human characters (Front scene: this Screen – 92, Museum Screen – 89), boarders, style of artisanship, shape style, proportion and artisanship of faces and figures.
