The handles are carved ivory figures of children dressed in Victorian garb; each carving is unique yet clearly part of the same set. The service ends, blades, tines, etc. are solid sterling silver and fully hallmarked. This fabulous set comes in the original wood presentation box, lined with plush deep cobalt blue velvet. These pieces would be most appropriate for a salad or dessert course. And wouldn't they be just the best set ever for children! My fantasy is that this set was indeed originally made for children.......so, if you've got kiddies to pamper, this is just the thing! These bring up so many fond memories of my own childhood, and the birthday party I threw for my then 6 year old daughter at the Alice in Wonderland High Tea the Four Season's holds every year. Maybe I should save these for my grandchildren! They are simply superb! And yes, expensive; but sometimes I just have to get these spectacular things for you. Condition: very good to excellent. There are one or two hairline cracks in the old ivory handles. This does not detract from the beauty of the pieces, nor destabilize the utensils at all. Also to note: the key to box is missing.
