Great Museum Quality piece - This fabulous Antique French Sterling Silver Sugar Bowl has elegant oval cobalt crystal insert. The holder has 2 gorgeous handles and standing on 4 elegant legs. Thoroughly decorated with great workmanship, chiseled, chased, embossed and reticulated lavish Louis XVI Style motifs all over. Berried laurel and oval medallions are enhanced beauty of this Sugar Bowl. The Lid is also embellished with great works, embossed flowers and roses, medallions, grape and vine leaves figures on top, and finished with charming pineapple finial. It's hard to explain all the beauty of this sumptuous piece - so please take a look at detail photos I added. The photos speak for themselves ! Measurements:It standing 5"1/4 (13.4cm) high with lid - 7"7/8 (20cm) large with handles - 4"3/8 (11cm) wide. Weight of silver (holder+lid) is 10.50oz (297.6g). Weight of cobalt insert is 11.47oz (325.3g).The total weight of holder+lid+insert is 21.97oz (622.9g). As hallmarks we have The French Minerva No.1 on each parts of silver, which indicates the best quality of French sterling silver 950/1000 (purer than .925 sterling!) used in Paris since 1838. As maker's mark, we have of "Jean-Baptiste HARLEUX", 15 rue Grand-Hurleur, had worked in Paris from 1834 (the information from Dictionnaire des Poincons de Maitres=orfevres Francais du XIVe siecle a 1838, par E. Beuque) This museum quality Antique French Sterling Silver & Crystal Sugar Bowl is in Excellent Condition as its age. Less than usual light scratchs from long years of light use. The cobalt insert has very tiny chip on the rim, but hardly can be seen.
