Royal Armorial: Puiforcat! Antique French Sterling Silver Hors d'Oeuvres SetAntiques:Silver, Sterling Exceptional set of 5 hors d'oeuvres serving pieces all marked with royal crown and coat of arms. The set is comprised of a large fruit serving spoon, a bonbon server, a fork, sugar tongs and a smaller spoon. Each piece is decorated in Louis XVI style with floral sprays, lamberkins and acanthus leafs. The fork and smaller serving spoon are finely engraved with a foliate design. The little bonbon serving piece is pierced and chased and utterly delightful! Such uncompromising FINE workmanship; truly fit for a king! The set comes in the original box, leather covered and gold emblazoned with a crown as well. The box is lined with a lush burgundy colored velvet and white silk. Condition is pristine. Not a sign of use....oh, well, perhaps there is a slight bend in the sugar tongs on one side. This set is so elegant and in such excellent condition, it would make a marvelous gift. I have not researched the coat of arms; if anyone knows, please share your knowledge! See photos for dimensions and marks. All pieces are marked with Puiforcat's touch mark and with the Minerve 1st titre. Hence these pieces are made of 950/1000 parts pure silver; higher than the American and British sterling standard 925/1000. Please Note: The coat of arms has a royal mantling, within the mantling it also has a crown, likely that of a duke or a prince. The eagle, according to one source, symbolizes : Person of noble nature, strength, bravery, and alertness; or one who is high-spirited, ingenious, quick-witted, and judicious; "True magnanimity and strength of mind" acc. to Guillim. If wings "displayed," it signifies protection. There are also wings emerging from the credt which signifies swifteness and protection.
