Description
Antique Japanese Mizuya-Dansu, or kitchen chest, dating to the late Meiji-Period (early 1900's). Originating from the Gifu area of Japan, this classic tansu is crafted from Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) and Sugi (Japanese Cedar), with clean, simple lines evocative of Craftsmen and Shaker style furniture. This chest consists of two sections, which may be stacked as originally intended, or used as separate free-standing or wall-mounted components. Each section measures approximately 59 1/2 inches wide by 17" deep. In the stacked configuration, the tansu measures 59 1/2" tall. The bottom section stands 31 1/4" and the top section measures 28 1/4" tall. Good overall condition; thoroughly cleaned and waxed to restore lustrous patina. Vertical framing member in the back corner of the lower section has bowed somewhat (see photo), but does not affect the structural integrity. Shipping Information: Flat rate shipping is $300 to the Continental United States via Fedex Ground. Item will be packaged in two separate plywood shipping crates to ensure against damage. International buyers please contact me for a shipping quote. Local pickup is welcome at my Oxnard, California showroom, and delivery is available in the greater Los Angeles/Santa Barbara area for a reasonable price.
