FANTASTIC 5 PC BAILEY & KITCHEN LARGE STERLING TEA SET Presented is a wonderful 5 piece coin silver or sterling silver tea set by Bailey and Kitchen, a fine Philadelphia maker. This set is quite large and heavy. It is a very usable set. The set includes 2 teapots, a coffeepot, a creamer, and a covered sugar bowl. All 5 large pieces are done in a tapered octagonal shape. They are beautifully hand chased and hand engraved with charming floral designs. Each piece is raised on 4 feet which were cast separately and applied . The owner was kind enough to have the pieces monogrammed D. W. Garrett on the bottom so that they are not visible. Garrett is possibly a descendant of William Garrett, a prominent Quaker whose family was one of the first to settle in Philadelphia. One of the pots is also engraved with the date 1845. Each piece has the Bailey and Kitchen hallmarks underneath. The partnership of Bailey and Kitchen operated from 1832 until 1848, after which the company became Bailey & Co. This set was made in 1845 perhaps a little earlier. This set is guaranteed to be at least coin silver purity. It is not silverplated. The set is very clean and is in fabulous condition. All 5 pieces are unbelievably clean inside. The hinged lids are strong and close tightly. The handles are all tight to the bodies and the ivory insulators are in superb condition. There are a couple of very minor and small dings and a few very minor surface abrasions and scratches. There are no other dents, no breaks, no repairs, no visible monograms, no monogram removals, and no problems of any kind. One of the pots is 10 1/2 inches tall. The other two are 9 1/4 inches tall. The sugar is 9 1/4 inches tall. The creamer is 4 7/8 inches tall. The weight is 4000 grams or 140.1 ounces.
