This is a 19th Century Japanese artist signed carving derived from genuine African Elephant Ivory. The piece is 12 inches tall including its ivory base. It is signed at the foot of the base and on the underside as well. Although it is a gorgeous piece it is not in perfect condition. I will list each imperfection. My photos have red arrows at the location of the imperfections. This piece could sell for as much as $12,000.00 - $14,000.00 at reputable auctions. This is a 19th Century Japanese carving.   1. The sleeve of the right arm is an attached seperate piece where you can see the joint. Climate changes probably caused some shrinkage causing the seam gap to appear wider. The rear side of the right sleeve. (Below) 2. The rear portion of the hat is an added piece that has shifted or been reglued. 3. The right shoe has been split towards the front and been reglued. The piece therefore, is secure, however, it can move or rock back and forth on the base.
