According to the shape (sugata) and its overall characteristics, I would judge the sword as Koto, 15th or 16th century.The sword is Ubu (unshortened) and Mumei (unsigned). The overall Sugata and especially its Nagako strongly suggest Soshu School. The blade is free or rust or nicks and there are no forging flaws such as Hagire or Fukure but it has seen many polishes. as you can see in the pictures. A Hamon is not clearly visible. MountingsThe blade is mounted in very nice quality iron Aikuchi mounts which look like Mino school? They display grapevine and have fine detail. The Saya has been restored recently hwere it has had lacquer losses. The Tsuka is wrapped with black Same. It has one Menuki with mon designs and one with a person delivering / carrying some sort of parcel. The Habaki is a two piece copper one with gold washing remaining. A Kurigata has been added as the original was missing but it is not shown in the pictures. Condition The sword is a classic example of an old samurai sword from the famous Koto periode. The blade is presently out of polish and has been polished several times over the centuries. No forging flaws are visible though but for some open grain. The iron Aikuchi mounts (Fuchi, Kashia, Koiguchi, Kojiri and the iron Kozuka slot bridge) remain in nice condition. CONDITIONS OF SALE AND SHIPPING: WORLDWIDE SHIPPING!
