This is a top quality piece by one of the more important Art Deco silversmiths whose pieces are now very sought after and commanding very high prices when they come up for sale at auction. This two handled covered cup is a wonderful example of Charles Boyton's supreme craftsmanship with superbly chased flowers and leaves on either side of the two handles, beaded patterning around the edges of the bowl , handle and the base and stylized flower stems coming up from the base around the bowl. The lid has a superbly executed rose as finial and the whole piece has a very solid feeling of quality. The cup is 7 inches / 178 mm wide across the handes and stands almost 4 inches / 100 mm high. It weighs an impressive 429 grams. The piece is in superb condition and is free from dents, damage or repair. The cup has good clear hallmarks - lion passant, London mark, letter C for 1938 and maker's mark CB for Charles Boyton. The underside also bears the stamped signature 'Charles Boyton'.
