Original Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866) Japanese Woodblock print Battle at Mt. Yakeyama, printed 1861From the story of "Taiheiki" Comments- A stunning and dramatic woodblock print triptych by Yoshitsuya of a scene from the tale of "Taiheiki". While crossing the burning mountain, the valiant warrior Sato Kiyomasa and his troops are shown in a confrontation with a giant serpent. The men brandish swords and rifles and bats harass the samurai from above. The spirits of the trees, identified by name (pine, oak, etc.) in Japanese characters nearby, attempt to calm the giant serpent that is coiled through panels and rearing to strike. A fantastic scene from Japanese legend. Framed and displayed, this beautiful, full triptych would be an impressive visual addition to any room. This triptych is a very rare find and a true collector’s item. We’re pleased to offer this special piece to our clients. Artist- Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866)Image size- 28 1/4" x 14 1/4"Condition- With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Nice full sheets, not trimmed. A few small holes, repaired, blends well. Light vertical creases at right edge of each panel, some light separation repaired from reverse, blends well. Some light fraying at edges, not serious.
